The Great Northern Hotel, established in 1863 in the beachside suburb of Newcastle, offers guests a variety of activities and dining options, encased within a heritage-listed building. Collaborating with architect John Cochrane, redwah created a destination venue that stood out from other pubs in the area.

The brief was to create a space and experience that was respectful to the pub’s origins and the rich history of the building, by retaining as many heritage elements as possible. A selection of carefully-chosen new and existing materials were considered for this project, weaving the old with the new for seamless experience.

There are plans to add a rooftop bar to this heritage hotel in the future, along with the possibility of developing the remaining levels, which would take advantage of the breathtaking ocean views over Newcastle’s main beach. Redwah is very much looking forward to being part of the next stage of The Great Northern’s unique seaside transformation.​
